Support for young people and children affected by dementia

Understanding dementia: A guide for young people

If you are a young person, and someone close to you has been diagnosed with dementia the Health Scotland Understanding Dementia guide could help you to:

  • understand what dementia is, and what is happening to the person with dementia
  • cope with the effect the person’s illness has on you
  • find help and support if you need it

Aberdeenshire Carers Support Service

VSA Aberdeenshire Carers Support Service can provide support to young carers in various ways. Initially, they offer the carer a Young Carer Statement (YCS) and looks at ways to reduce the burden and make sure young carers can access the same opportunities as other young people in their local community.
