Taking short breaks

If you care for someone with dementia and think you would benefit from a break from the sometimes stressful demands and routines of your role as a carer, help is available. Short breaks are sometimes described as respite care. They are an essential part of the support that families and carers need to help them care for a family member, partner or friend who has dementia.

Short breaks can involve planning time apart, or time together with extra support, and can vary from several hours to a couple of weeks.

More information about short breaks and respite care is available on Aberdeenshire Council’s website.
